In order to achieve China's "carbon peak and carbon neutral" goal proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the United Nations General Assembly in 2020, help China smoothly pass the carbon peak during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period At the critical stage of the development, China Energy News will hold the "Carbon Peak, Carbon Neutrality Path Seminar and High-quality Development Innovation Case Conference" in Beijing on December 8, 2021.
The conference is to integrate the industry's superior resources, share innovative achievements, promote the application of "dual carbon" technology, and promote the high-quality development of the industry. The technology group Wärtsilä, as a representative of Finland's smart and flexible power generation field and clean energy technology, was invited to participate in this conference. At the meeting, Wärtsilä expressed its views on the implementation path of China's carbon neutrality goals and how to build a renewable energy technology ecosystem to help China's power system increase frequency and peak regulation capabilities.
According to the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the "Outline of the 2035 Vision Plan", China will reach the "carbon peak" in 2030 and become "carbon neutral" in 2060. In this context, how to find a new development path with a new vision and national positioning under the test of "dual carbon" has become an urgent problem for all walks of life in China.
The “Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on the Complete, Accurate and Comprehensive Implementation of the New Development Concept to Do a Good Job in Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality” recently released will accelerate the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system as a key task. In the Peak Action Plan, promoting the smooth transition of energy and low-carbon transition is regarded as a working principle. In the power system, the key to satisfying the low-carbon energy load balance is to improve the flexible adjustment capability of the power system. Wärtsilä's innovative gas internal combustion engine (ICE) plays an important role in maintaining the stability and reliability of the power system.
Sushil Purohit, President, Wärtsilä Energy and EVP, Wärtsilä said at the meeting: “China has announced its dual carbon goal, achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, and reaching peak carbon emissions by 2030. We believe, for China to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, the country's energy system would need to build and integrate considerably more renewable energy and reduce its reliance on coal-fired power production. But simply building more solar and wind farms isn't enough. The unpredictable nature of weather dependent solar and wind power requires a highly flexible power system that can adapt and ramp up production at times when renewables are not able to meet the demand. And that can also quickly shut down when the renewables are back online."
Wärtsilä Group (Wärtsilä) was established in 1834 in Finland, the Nordic country, and has a history of more than 180 years. It is a global leader in providing advanced technology and complete life cycle solutions for the energy market. It has mature grid system modeling commitment Optimize the power system and flexible power balance capabilities. Based on Wärtsilä's experience in more than 80 similar power system modeling studies around the world, it is believed that the combination of flexible technology and renewable energy integration can bring huge cost benefits to the Chinese energy market.
