About Wärtsilä in China

Wärtsilä had its first presence in China since 1986. China has been the largest Shipbuilding country lately and through past more than 20 years development, Wärtsilä China Ltd. is well positioned for Ship Power and Service business. It has established strong footprint through its fully owned subsidiaries, joint ventures and long-term licensing agreements. Its headquarter is in Shanghai, China.

In the marine market, some leading Chinese ship owners and shipyards are not only Wärtsilä customers, but also JV partners. Wärtsilä Services provides service and maintenance to its customers in China through nine locations. In the energy markets, Wärtsilä has delivered altogether 3,500 MW of power plants to China.  Including Wärtsilä joint venture companies, there are currently more than 1,500 Wärtsilä employees working in China.

Since entering the Chinese market, Wärtsilä China has made continuous efforts in supporting the local community. Wärtsilä China has initiated an annual scholarship program with local maritime universities, rewarding outstanding academic performance and providing timely help to those students from poor families for more than a decade. Each year, Wärtsilä China prioritizes its recruitment for the students from those universities, and has established a solid long-term platform for on-job practice and employment. In 2014, under the theme Action for Love, Wärtsilä China’s corporate social responsibilities campaign was launched across the company to call for employees’ contribution to help underprivileged kids in remote regions. Wärtsilä China donated 500 sets of desks and chairs, 25 teacher’s podiums and 25 blackboards, as well as a total of 100kg of books to Sha Ping Primary School in Zhenfeng County. The donation was intended to improve local teaching conditions and provide better studying environment for children.
